Class Descriptions

Mixed Ages

This is the essential Music Together class, one that a child can attend from birth through age five, with nine song collections. This basic class follows the recommendations of child development researchers—grouping children of a variety of ages because this fosters natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, or exploring musical instruments. Any caregivers—parents, grandparents, nanny—can bring the children. The whole family is welcome for this important and fun family music experience.

Babies Class

Join seasoned teacher Annie Keeling Friedman for this one-semester Babies Class for families with infants from birth through eight months of age. In this class, the activities are specifically designed to teach you how to support music development in infancy and how to connect with your baby through music using methods such as "purposeful touch," "sound-layering," "dancing for baby," etc. And since our Babies Class uses the same song collections as our other classes, you will experience a seamless transition as your baby grows into our mixed-age, in-school, and "Rhythm Kids" classes.

NEW! Rhythm Kids! Level 1, Ages 4-5

Rhythm Kids® is an exciting music, movement, and drumming class developed by the Music Together® research team. Led by Teacher Anne Vaaler, who has been teaching children's music for more than 20 years, children will sing, dance, move, drum, and play to songs and beats from around the world while they integrate and assimilate rhythm in new ways. Each class is 45 minutes, and parents/caregivers are encouraged to stay and participate with their children, but whether parents stay is up to each individual family.  This program includes additional musical materials to help support your child's learning at home.

Here is a video introduction to the class:

This is a Level 1 Rhythm Kids class for children ages 4-5. Rhythm Kids is segmented into two programs, one for children ages 4–5 and the other for children in Kindergarten, first, and second grades ( (That means a 5-year-old who has not yet started K would take Rhythm Kids Level 1, and a 5-year-old who has started K could be in either class.) Both are designed to help children integrate and assimilate rhythm, and include:

  • Learning multicultural drumming patterns in unique animal-themed groupings

  • Developing new repertoire on various percussion instruments

  • Exploring movement and dance while singing songs

  • Playing games based on music and drumming
